Latest in Athens and COVID-19

March 18, 2020

We hope you all are doing well and staying healthy. There are constant changes in the COVID-19 development as we as a nation are trying to keep it contained. As of Tuesday, March 17th, there have been 3 confirmed cases in Athens-Clarke County. Athens is doing the best they can to keep people home and safe from the fast-spreading virus.

We have created out own COVID Page choc full of information pertaining to UGA, Moveouts, Local Athens Businesses and especially Online Learning Resources. Check out the page here!

The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government has created a Coronavirus page on their website to keep the community up to date on the latest changes, closures, and assistance being offered in the community. We also have their feed on our COVID Page!  You can visit  their site: www.athensclarkecounty.com/coronavirus for more information.

There have been changes in most local businesses with some offering delivery, shipping, and curbside pickup to help citizens as we face this pandemic. It is so important to support your local businesses during this time. While this difficult situation has affected every person differently, the small businesses in Athens have lost a significant portion of their business as school has now been moved to online for the remainder of the semester.  Read more about the business changes here.

We have tried to gather some information for you all to keep you updated on what’s going on in Athens. Here are a few things that we have learned:

What medical businesses have COVID-19 testing?

  • Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital is currently offering testing for COVID-19. The hospital has encouraged potential patients to call 866-460-1119 to have your symptoms evaluated by a nurse prior to going in to get tested.

Online learning will be a new endeavor for many.  We are gathering tips from our friends at OneClass.com who are giving away 100,000 hours of online tutoring for FREE.  Check out the Tips here, and submit for your free hour with OneClass here.

We at Parents of Georgia are going to do our absolute best to keep you informed. Please continue to follow guidelines of social distancing in hopes that you, your student and your community can slow the spread of COVID-19. Don’t forget to stay up to date on our COVID-19 Page
